Are Coupons Worth It?

$89.67 worth of groceries for $28.47. This is the results of my shopping trip to Harris Teeter on Thursday.
I saved 68% off my bill this time. Normally, I can save between 35%-80% on a given shopping trip. How is this possible? Harris Teeters in NC are doubling 20 coupons per houshold per day up to $1.99 this week. It is a dream come true for couponers. Harris Teeters in other states may be doing this also. Just go to their website http://www.harristeeter.com/ and look at the weekly specials for your store to find out.

Here's the receipt from this trip:

I am going to go one or two more times before the sales change next Wednesday to see if I can do even better. I will post how I do here so stay tuned. I also will do some shopping at a store that doubles up to 99cents everyday and a store that does not double at all to show what can still be done to lower your grocery bill. If you want to try this and need some coupons, try http://www.redplum.com/, http://www.smartsource.com/, and http://www.coupons.com/ for printable coupons. Also try to get your Sunday's newspaper for more coupons. The double coupons at Harris Teeter don't stop until Wednesday so, you have time to use coupons from tomorrow's newspaper. Look at the advertised sales in the weekly specials section of http://www.harristeeter.com/ and see if you have any coupons for the same items and you should be able to score some great deals.
